Casa Serra plans a winter table on Front Street

House of Pasta’s sister restaurant is planned for the Seaport, with skylights, greenery and a familiar Italian menu shaping the proposal.

Casa Serra is planned for 227 Front St. in Manhattan’s South Street Seaport Historic District. In an Oct. 5 announcement, landlord the Durst Organization identified the Italian restaurant as a sister concept to House of Pasta, led by Jazmin Rodriguez. Winter is the expected opening window; an exact date has not been announced.

The proposal begins with the room. Durst describes skylights above a dining space intended to hold trees and other greenery. That combination makes the project interesting beyond its menu: a planted interior could give a winter dinner a sense of shelter while preserving the light and proportions of the historic space. The finished design will determine how that idea reaches the table.

The food provides a more concrete connection to the existing East Village restaurant. The announcement names mushroom and truffle white lasagna, bucatini alla pistachio and milanese with fettuccine al burro among the House of Pasta dishes planned for Casa Serra. That is an announced direction, rather than a complete final menu or a price list.

House of Pasta’s existing address is 511 E. 12th St. in the East Village. Its own website provides the current menu and booking channel for that restaurant. The connection gives diners a place to explore the cooking behind the expansion while the Seaport project takes shape.

Save the address as a future dinner possibility. Casa Serra’s service hours, booking arrangements and detailed programming remain to be announced. A reservation at House of Pasta’s East Village location should not be mistaken for a booking at the Seaport project.
