The art book crowd has a Queens address

Printed Matter’s New York Art Book Fair returns to MoMA PS1 this week with more than 310 exhibitors, programs and a Thursday opening night.

The smartest weekend bag in New York may be a tote with room for a catalog, a limited edition print and the thing you did not know you needed until it was on a table in front of you.

Printed Matter’s New York Art Book Fair is scheduled for MoMA PS1 from Sept. 25 to 27, with an opening night celebration on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 7 to 10 p.m. This is an announced event, not a review or a report from inside the fair.

The official fair site says the 2026 edition brings more than 310 exhibitors to MoMA PS1, including small presses, rare book dealers, institutions, artist publishers and collectives. It also marks 20 years since the first fair took place in Chelsea.

The appeal is not only shopping. The fair lists artist led programs, the Reading Room, The Classroom, The Stage, project spaces, workshops, performances and awards. Opening night tickets are listed at $60. General entry is listed at $10 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with advance registration encouraged and door sales subject to availability.

For a reader who likes New York with a little texture, this is a strong plan. It has the intimacy of printed matter, the scale of an international fair and the pleasure of leaving with something that feels personally discovered.

Make the practical part elegant. Buy tickets through the official fair page, confirm the time you want, then give Long Island City a little room around the visit. The fair is the anchor. The rest of the afternoon can stay loose.
